  1. Rinse the yellow split lentils thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear. Set aside.
  2. Add the rinsed lentils, 800 g water, ground turmeric, and 1 tsp salt to the mixing bowl. Cook 25 min / 100°C / Speed 1 / Reverse.
  3. After 15 minutes, pause the Thermomix, scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl with the spatula to ensure even cooking and prevent sticking. Continue cooking.
  4. Once cooked, carefully transfer the dal to a separate bowl and set aside. Rinse the mixing bowl.
  5. Add 1000 g water and 0.5 tsp salt to the clean mixing bowl. Place the rinsed basmati rice into the simmering basket and insert it into the mixing bowl.
  6. Cook 20 min / Varoma / Speed 4. Carefully remove the simmering basket, fluff the rice with a fork, and set aside.
  7. Rinse the mixing bowl again. Add 30 g vegetable oil, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and dried red chilies to the clean mixing bowl. Sauté 3 min / 120°C / Speed 1 / Reverse.
  8. Add asafoetida, onion, garlic, ginger, and green chilies to the bowl. Chop 3 sec / Speed 5. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with the spatula.
  9. Sauté 5 min / 120°C / Speed 1 / Reverse.
  10. Add quartered tomatoes, red chili powder, and optional garam masala to the bowl. Cook 5 min / 100°C / Speed 1 / Reverse.
  11. Add the cooked dal back into the mixing bowl with the tempering mixture. Mix 2 min / 90°C / Speed 1 / Reverse.
  12. Serve the hot Dal Tadka garnished with fresh chopped coriander, alongside the fragrant Basmati rice.
